A Story of The Healing Power of Photography

I know how I feel when, I am out in nature, standing in front of one of the most beautiful scenes in the world, right before sunrise.  I am a little bit nervous hoping and praying that the conditions will be perfect for the shot I had stirring in my brain.  My heart is pumping, I am invigorated, and I am fully, joyfully alive. Moments like these I am the most alive of my entire life.  This is how I experience the Healing Power of Photography.

A Story From a Friend

Recently a friend told me a story about how photography has impacted her life.  She has given me permission to tell her story in a slightly opaque way so that she can remain anonymous but you can still grasp the power of her story.   So here goes!

The Story of Emily and Photography

Once upon a time, in a quaint little town nestled between rolling hills and a serene lake, there lived a young woman named Emily. Emily was an introvert, often finding solace in the quiet corners of the library or the peaceful embrace of nature. However, there was an underlying sadness that lingered within her, stemming from a tragic accident that had taken her father’s life a few years ago.

Emily had always been fascinated by the art of photography, but she had never pursued it seriously. One day, while browsing through old family albums, she stumbled upon her father’s old camera. Memories flooded back, of him capturing moments of joy and laughter, freezing them in time for eternity.

Inspired by her father’s passion, Emily decided to delve into the world of photography. She enrolled in a local photography class, determined to learn the craft and unlock the secrets of her father’s beloved camera.

The Journey

As she embarked on this journey, something magical began to happen. With each click of the shutter, Emily felt a weight lift off her shoulders. Photography became her therapy, her way of expressing emotions too complex for words. Through the lens of her camera, she found a new perspective on life – one filled with beauty and hope.

New Confidence

With newfound confidence, Emily started exploring the world around her, capturing moments both big and small. She wandered through bustling city streets, capturing the vibrant energy of urban life. She ventured into the wilderness, immersing herself in the tranquil beauty of untouched landscapes. And everywhere she went, she found healing in the act of creation.

Connections Forged

But it wasn’t just the act of taking photos that brought solace to Emily’s soul. It was also the connections she forged along the way. She joined photography clubs, where she met fellow enthusiasts who shared her passion. She volunteered to photograph events in her community, using her skills to give back and make a difference.

Finding Purpose and Belonging

Through photography, Emily found a sense of purpose and belonging that she had been missing since her father’s passing. She realized that healing wasn’t just about moving on from the past, but about finding beauty and joy in the present moment. And as she continued to capture the world through her lens, she discovered that the greatest journey of all was the one within herself.
