ToggleCreatives for Christ: Building a Christ-Centered Community of Artists
In every brushstroke, every lyric, every movement on stage, and every captured image, there is a reflection of something divine. Creativity isn’t just a skill or a pastime—it’s part of what it means to be made in the image of God. Our God is the original Creator, and when we create, we mirror His nature. That simple but powerful truth is at the heart of a new ministry we’ve launched at Berean Baptist Church in Burnsville, MN: Creatives for Christ.
This ministry is currently open to those who attend Berean, but our long-term vision is broader. We believe this kind of creative Christian community has value far beyond a single church—and we want to share the vision in hopes that it sparks something similar in churches and artists around the country and beyond.
Whether you’re part of Berean, a creative from another church, or a ministry leader looking for inspiration, this post is for you.
Why Creatives for Christ?
The Church throughout history has had a rich relationship with the arts. From the grandeur of cathedrals to the beauty of ancient hymns and illuminated manuscripts, art has long been used to glorify God and communicate the Gospel. But in recent times, many Christian artists have felt disconnected—from the church, from one another, and even from their God-given calling.
Creatives for Christ was born to meet that need. It’s a space where artists can gather to:
Grow spiritually and creatively
Build meaningful community
Be equipped for ministry
And ultimately, glorify God through their art
Right now, we’re doing this within the context of Berean Baptist Church, but we’re already dreaming of expanding beyond. Whether by welcoming Christian creatives outside of Berean or by encouraging others to launch similar ministries in their own churches, the goal is the same: to use creativity for the glory of God and the good of the Church.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to support and encourage artists within a Christ-centered, Bible-believing church, helping them grow in their God-given gifts and use their creativity to glorify God, build up the church, and be a light to the world.
This ministry exists not just to showcase talent but to cultivate spiritual purpose in creative expression. We believe art, when surrendered to Christ, becomes an instrument of worship, witness, and healing.
Our Mission
Our mission flows directly from our purpose, and it focuses on three key goals:
To cultivate artistic excellence by offering opportunities for creative growth and skill development.
To create a welcoming, Christ-centered community where artists can collaborate, encourage, and inspire one another.
To provide creative outlets both within the ministry of the church and beyond, through events, showcases, and displays that reflect beauty, truth, and the Gospel.
Who Is This For?
While we currently serve those attending Berean Baptist, this vision is meant for a wide spectrum of creatives, and we hope it will spread and take root in other churches too.
Here’s a look at some of the areas of creativity we celebrate and support:
Visual Arts: Painting, photography, sculpture, graphic design, digital art, calligraphy, mixed media
Music: Singers, instrumentalists, composers, songwriters, producers, worship leaders
Writing & Literature: Fiction and non-fiction writers, poets, devotionals, spoken word artists
Theater & Performance: Actors, playwrights, dancers, storytellers, directors
Film & Media: Videographers, editors, animators, sound designers, film producers
Craftsmanship: Woodworking, textiles, metalwork, pottery, stained glass, quilting, jewelry
Culinary Arts: Chefs, bakers, food stylists, hospitality creatives
Patrons: Those who support creatives spiritually, financially, or through community-building
Whether you’re a professional, a passionate amateur, or just beginning to explore your gifts, you are welcome.
Our Theological Foundation
We believe that creativity is a reflection of the nature of God. The very first act in Scripture is creation. Before He was known as Redeemer, Judge, or Savior, God was known as Creator.
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.” – Psalm 150:6
We don’t worship creativity itself—we worship the Creator. And in doing so, we offer our gifts back to Him. Whether it’s a painting that stirs worship, a song that comforts the grieving, or a photograph that reveals God’s majesty, we aim to create with intention, beauty, and truth.
What Our Gatherings Look Like
Our monthly meetings at Berean follow a simple but rich structure:
1. Welcome & Opening Prayer
We begin with prayer to align our hearts and invite the Spirit into our time together.
2. Vision Casting
We review our purpose and ground our time in Scripture, reminding ourselves why creativity matters in the kingdom of God.
3. Creative Showcase
Each meeting, one or two members share something they’ve created—music, writing, artwork, film, or anything else. It’s a time of encouragement, storytelling, and seeing how God is working through the arts.
4. Feedback & Group Discussion
We offer positive, Christ-centered feedback. This helps artists refine their work and see their craft through others’ eyes.
5. Skill Development or Teaching Moments
We occasionally invite speakers or leaders to teach on technical or spiritual aspects of being a Christian creative.
6. Networking and Prayer
We leave time for relationship-building, prayer for one another, and dreaming up collaborative projects.
For Other Churches and Creatives
If you’re reading this and thinking, “We could use something like this at my church,”—you’re right. You can. And you should.
You don’t need a huge team or budget to start a community like this. All you need is:
A heart for creatives
A commitment to Scripture
A desire to help artists grow, belong, and create for God’s glory
Start small. Host a gathering. Pray together. Invite a few creatives to share their work. Offer feedback. Worship. Encourage each other. Before long, you’ll see something beautiful take root.
This blog isn’t just an announcement—it’s an invitation. We want Creatives for Christ to grow not just at Berean, but through other churches and communities of faith. If God is stirring your heart to build something similar, we’d love to talk with you and help however we can.
Looking Ahead
At Berean, we’re praying about the possibility of opening this group beyond just our church family. The need is great, and the hunger among creatives is real. But we’re also committed to growing this community with intentionality, prayer, and strong biblical foundations.
If you’re a part of Berean and this stirs something in you, join us.
Are you from another church and this inspires you, start your own movement.
