Most Popular Images of All Time

Why a Most Popular Images List?

As people contact me looking to purchase prints, they frequently ask me what image should I purchase and what images are most popular? So, I thought it was time to come up with the most popular images of all time!

How This Got Started

I have been a photographer for a very long time.  Originally, I picked up a camera in grade school. I would take pictures of family outings, beautiful places, and days out on the Mississippi River.

In college,  I remember having a 35 mm camera and 3 lenses. I was the one who would be taking pictures at college events and outings.

As an adult, in 2003 I remembered finding the website flickr.com and seeing some of the amazing work people were producing. It was at that point I decided to become a real artist.

My Selection of Subjects

Over the years my main focus for photography has become fine art landscape and travel photography.  My purpose in life is to travel the world to see and explore the most beautiful places in God’s Creation. Then I attempt to capture those places in interesting beautiful lighting conditions.  I also use my time to teach others to do the same. You can find more information on photography lessons here.

Over the years my focus for photography , I have been blessed with the opportunity to capture a vast array of  stunning images.   The purpose of this project is to give some order to that collection. Thereby making it easier for you the viewer, to see and experience the best of the best of my work in a simple orderly fashion.

How Does One Build Such a List?

To help me come up with a list of my best work, I use the analytics capabilities of my gallery website https://wayne-moran.pixels.com.  That site gives me information on how many views an image has had over the lifetime on the site. It also gives me information on the number of sales per image.  I used a combination of that information to come up with this final list.   So here we go.

24 A Time Gone By

A Time Gone By Historic Eagan Barn
A Time Gone By – Historic Eagan Barn

“Works of art, in my opinion, are the only objects in the material universe to possess internal order, and that is why, though I don’t believe that only art matters, I do believe in Art for Art’s sake.” E. M. Forster

I think this picture does a wonderful job of showing us the importance of our agricultural heritage here in the upper Midwest.

This image was originally posted on flickr.com in 2007. This old barn that was relatively close to my house. It no longer exists.  I believe it was so popular 1st for the style of image, 2nd because it connects with people’s  sentimental attachment to the past.

This is The Cathedral of St Paul all dressed up for the 2013 Red Bull Crashed Ice event.  It certainly is a unique crazy event.  Ice skaters come screaming down this frozen track like you would see snow skiers in a race event.  This is some extreme sports at its best.   To find out more about this event go to Red Bull Crashed Ice.

22 Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum

Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum Minneapolis

This image was originally taken Aug 2, 2009.  I had the awesome opportunity to shoot with an up-and-coming photographer, Ava. The top location on our list was the Weisman Art Museum on the University of Minnesota Campus.

And I quote…

“Housed in a striking stainless steel and brick building designed by architect Frank Gehry, the Weisman Art Museum offers an educational and friendly museum experience. The museum’s collection features early 20th century American artists such as Georgia O’Keeffe and Marsden Hartley, as well as a diverse selection of contemporary art. A teaching museum for the University of Minnesota and the community, the Weisman provides a fresh, engaging arts experience through an array of programs and a changing schedule of exhibitions.”

St Paul Minnesota Its a River Town

There is a special magic about St Paul Minnesota, the river town that happens as the weather gets colder and the night is coming on. The colors and the lights play games with your imagination, and you feel like a little kid again. You want to explore everything and see every angle of the view. St Paul is a place of magic.

Awesome Amazing Horseshoe Bend Page Arizona

This spring we had planned a photography excursion to the desert southwest, namely Arizona. There were many sights that we wanted to see like The Grand Canyon, Sedona, and Antelope Canyon but the one place that was really driving the trip was Horseshoe Bend Arizona near Page. There was something about the place that called my name and drew me to it.

The view of the Downtown Minneapolis Skyline over the Hennepin Avenue Bridge is one of the most spectacular in all of Minneapolis. If you have not been there, I would recommend that you get there for an adventure in beauty.

19.2 Minneapolis Skyline at Night (Yes we have a tie)

This view of the Minneapolis Skyline from the southwest end of Marquette Avenue is in my opinion the best view of Minneapolis. It shows the city in all its splendor as the sun goes down in the west. I hope you love it as much as I do.

I ventured down to the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, Minnesota with a few friends. It was a great outing. We learned quite a bit about the eagles and of course we got to see some up close and personal. What a wonderful time.

After such great visit to the center, I recommend you get down there and be sure to stop for mind blowing ice cream.

Our adventure this autumn was to North Shore of Minnesota situated on the glorious Lake Superior one of the five great lakes. Our adventure headquarters was at Lutsen Mountain resort area. For this particular adventure our planning worked out pretty well and we managed to arrive for the weekend of peak colors. On the first day of our trek, we rose at 5:00am to get on the trail early so that we could capture sunrise at Oberg Mountain. Hiking in the dark through dense forest can be a bit of a challenge but we arrived without a hitch. We were treated with an amazing array of colors on the hills out to our west and the piece de resistance was the wafting fog over the lake below. Now I hope heaven has some of this action going on!

How to travel the North East:
We decided to go to Lake Seneca on a whim. Our planning had told us about Watkins Glen State Park so we knew we were going to explore that area a bit. We were so happy that we did. The park is spectacular and there were great opportunities to capture some waterfalls.

This image was my son’s idea. 🙂

This is the best image from an outing with my “Shutter to Think” photo group to the Marjorie Mcneely Conservatory at Como Park and Zoo in St Paul MN. The place was not lit up internally by artificial lights like I was hoping so we made the best of it. This might even be better this way.

Recently I had a hankerin’ to get out and capture some cool architecture around Minneapolis. I had been spying out Robert H. Bruininks Hall on the University of Minnesota campus and today I had some time so what the heck. I ran over to the U of M to explore. This is one of the images that I discovered. I hope you like it.

Palisade Head in Beaver Bay MN, part of Tettegouche State Park on the North Shore of Lake Superior is one of those places in Minnesota that seem to be completely out of place. It makes me feel like I am on the cliffs of Ireland or something. It is a place that not too many people seem to stop and explore but it is certainly worth your time. Put it on your list to make sure you stop next time.

More great images of the North Shore can be found in my Minnesota North Shore Collection!

Some people tend to think that St Paul is not beautiful and alive… I think I differently!

My wife joined me on this shoot again, well after I bribed her with a nice meal!
Yes, she is a saint or angel!

This image is from Lebanon Hills Park in Eagan, MN, which happens to be quite close to my home. What that means is that I get many opportunities to explore this beautiful place. Minnesota has some of the best autumn colors in the entire country!

This is one of the things that I love most about Minnesota.

5 Riverplace Minneapolis Little Europe

Riverplace Minneapolis Little Europe
Riverplace Minneapolis Little Europe

Minneapolis is filled with magical little spots that almost defy the imagination. This area is called Riverplace and is a quaint almost European spot just east of the heart of Minneapolis. The turn of the century bridge and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church gives you a feeling that you are in some quaint little European town. This is the location of the Minneapolis stone arch bridge festival where amazing artists from the region bring their wares. I would suggest as the weather gets a little warmer go grab an adult beverage on the deck of one of the wonderful local restaurants and peer out over the Mississippi River as the sun goes down on the Minneapolis skyline. If you’re not familiar with this area, be sure to get out and check it out and of course bring your camera!

Take me out to the ball game…

This shot was captured at the Minnesota Twins stadium known as Target Field in Minneapolis Minnesota. This was a great win for Matt Fox’s professional Baseball debut.
I had great fun with the boys and I was able to witness this wonderful sunset.
As Tim would say, “this is quality of life my boys, quality of life.” Thanks Tim and Pat.

Bayfield, WI, gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore on the amazing inland sea of Lake Superior.

This was one of those mornings that a photographer always hopes and prays for where they are going on a specific photographic journey. I was so excited that I was here at the right time.  Find more images from Bayfield Wisconsin Here!

2 Split Rock Lighthouse – Full Moon

Split Rock Lighthouse - Full Moon
Split Rock Lighthouse – Full Moon

This was part of our recent family outing to the North Shore of Minnesota. If you are not familiar, this is along the majestic Lake Superior one of the five Great Lakes. We went to several state parks and hiked and explored. The weather was the best of the entire summer!! It was truly a great time.

This was all part of a trip taking my second son off to college. So of course, it was a bitter sweet time.

This particular shot is the historic Split Rock Lighthouse. This was an amazing situation. I was set up much further south to take a shot, Then a real professional photographer comes by and starts to chat. He says something like, do you know there is going to be a full moon to night coming up right over there at this time… etc… I said, I had no clue (Which is generally true in much of life, ask my wife and kids. I digress…). Anyway he showed me everything… It was an awesome learning experience… It was obvious this person knew a ton and the best part was that he was willing to share.

That photographer was John Caughlan of Superior Photographs. Thank you John.

1 Iconic Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge

Iconic Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge
Iconic Minneapolis Stone Arch Bridge

The Stone Arch Bridge is a classic symbol of Minneapolis. It is a view of an era gone by, mixed with the modern. The bridge built by a great railroad baron, was used to create much of the wealth of the region being the means by which grain could come to market in the breadbasket of the country. This image is one of my most popular, being used for book covers, marketing material for local corporations and art in many offices and fine homes. This is the image that started it all off. This was the first image that I sold for way more than I thought was possible. And it continues to sell very well today!
