Top 5 Reasons Why You Must Travel to Cancun Mexico
Winter in the colder parts of the world can become very long and dreary. In the mid and later parts of winter, many of us get a bad case of spring fever even though there could be two to four months of cold weather before warmer weather takes over. Cancun Mexico is the ideal solution for a bad case of spring fever. It is a short 3 hour direct flight from many northern cities like Minneapolis and it has a huge range of prices for the properties from lower end family type unites to very high end luxury properties. In this article we will give you the Top 5 Reasons Why You Must Travel to Cancun Mexico.
The very idea of a Caribbean resort – a beautiful beach, warm water, lots of activities, pools, buffets, romantic dining, room service, sunset drinks and more – has people counting down to their holiday all year.
1 Incredible Beauty
The most obvious reason why Cancun is such a great destination is because of the incredible beauty of the place. That beauty is a combination of The weather, The Caribbean Sea, and the surrounding areas.
The Caribbean Sea
Oh that water, it is so so blue! Are you wondering why is the Caribbean water so blue? There are a few different factors that contribute to the Caribbean sea being so clear. The main reason why ocean water is blue is because of the absorption and scattering of light, similarly to why the sky is blue. However, there are several other factors why the Caribbean is that (lighter) blue. The shallow depths, light-colored sand and small amount of phytoplankton are the biggest factors. But the bottom line is that it is just so amazingly beautiful.
The Weather of Cancun
Weather is Warming
Cancun weather in February marks the time of year when temperatures start to rise after the very brief winter. In most of the US and especially Canada temperatures are chilly, yet in Cancun you’ll find most days in the 80s, only 4 days of rain, and zero days of snow! Average high temperatures during February are a pleasant 84 degrees with average lows around 67F – with these low temperatures being experienced mostly around sunrise. Of the 28 days of February an average of 21 days will deliver temperatures in excess of 80 degrees, although we will have to wait a further month before we experience our first 90 plus day. Cancun is still at risk from those north fronts that travel down from the North American continent and make for cool temperatures but their frequency reduces compared to in December and January.
February is Dry
February, somewhat surprisingly, is the third driest month of the year in Cancun with just 2.2 inches (5.59 cm) of rain falling over an average of 4 rainy days. Those 4 rainy days are unlikely to occur consecutively so there’s next to no chance of your whole vacation being wiped out by rain. The temperature of your hotel pool at this time of year can be a little cold, in fact you’ll experience higher water temperatures in the Ocean so it’s a great time of year to explore Cancun’s water sports activities.
Sunrise Sunset
There is something about the incredible beauty of the sunrises and sunsets in the more tropical climates. I was able to capture one incredible beauty one morning hat our resort. Yes, a photographer is always on duty. It is touch work, but someone has to do it. ;-D
2 Resorts
There is such a huge range of hotels and resorts around Cancun and there is certainly something for every price range. From lower end family priced hotels and resorts to high end 5 star Hotels. Two resorts that we are familiar with are The Westin Resort & Spa, Cancun and Jade Riviera Cancun – Riviera Maya, Mexico.
The Westin Resort & Spa, Cancun
Plan a getaway to paradise at The Westin Resort & Spa, Cancun. If a conference or social gathering brings you to Cancun, you’ll enjoy our extensive indoor venues, beach event spaces, custom catering & superb planning services. Westin Resort and Spa Cancun
We loved this place. The Westin is at the southern end of Cancun so it was not crazy busy like so many other places on the strip, yet it still gave us access to everything that Cancun had to offer. It is wonderfully luxurious with incredibly beautiful rooms and amenities. The Westin is/was affiliated with a timeshare organization and we did avail ourselves to the 1hr hardcore sales pitch from them in order to receive a 1 day tour package to the Mayan Ruins. It was certainly worth it. Make sure you practice saying NO before you go to the timeshare meeting.
Jade Riviera Cancun – Riviera Maya, Mexico
The second hotel is the Now Jade Riviera Cancun, located about 30 minutes south the Cancun Mexico airport.
Set along 2,600 feet of pure crystal white sand and refreshing azure waters, combining understated sophistication with Unlimited-Luxury amenities, Now Jade Riviera Cancun redefines all-inclusive and offers the perfect escape for couples, families and friends. NowResorts
3 So Many Things to Do in Cancun
Cancun offers all the modern conveniences that one would expect in any great city in America or Europe, but the place is much more beautiful and the weather is much more enjoyable. Shopping Food Cancun Music and Nightlife Tours – See more below.
4 Authentic Culture Close By
While it is true that much of the authentic Mexican culture has been pushed out of the main hustling and bustling parts of touristy Cancun, with a little help you can get off the the main thoroughfares and find much smaller local mom and pop shops and restaurants. We found this to be true on the far north side of Cancun. We were looking for completely authentic Mexican food, you know they type of place where momma is back in the kitchen cooking up some magic. As you get to the North side of town, there are many more restaurants like this. One that we especially like was Hacienda el Mortero. We certainly want to encourage you to seek out as much of the local community and culture as you can. The history and the people of Mexico are rich and beautiful.
5 Historic, Cultural, and Natural Tours
Chichen Itza Mayan Ruins
The historic location Chichen Itza is the second most popular site for visitors to Mexico. It is considered to be one of the Seven Wonders of the New World. Located on the Yucatan Peninsula, Chichen Itza was a large city built by the Maya people. It thrived from about 600 AD., until 1221, when the power in the region shifted to Mayapan. Today it can be visited by tourists and religious pilgrims alike. SoftSchools.com
We had an amazing day exploring this place. Wow so much rich history, and then the people just disappeared.
Cenotes
There are thousands of cenotes dotted all over Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and their existence is as much a defining characteristic of the region as is the distinct geological feature from which they result. Once revered by the ancient Mayans as sacred wells, they are now magnets for tourists, adventurers, and explorers alike. We went to what is probably the most popular one, Ik-Kil Cenote near Chichen Itza in Mexico.
Sailing
Take a look at this for a little inspiration.
There are hundreds of possibilities for sailing near the Yucatan Peninsula. If you have the interest, there are many ways to make this happen.
